PRESIDENT'S COLUMN
Happy New Year to all of the EUROTOX family.
As we return to work after the festive break it is a good time to reflect on the success of 2018 and to look forward to another exciting year in 2019. Our 2018 Brussels Congress was a great success with over 1,400 delegates enjoying an outstanding scientific programme. Our Past President, Aristidis Tsatsakis, was made an honorary member of EUROTOX, Corrado Galli received the Merit award and Nigel Gooderham was the Bo Holmstedt Memorial Lecturer.
We are looking forward to a wonderful congress in 2019 in the beautiful city of Helsinki, September 8-11, 2019. Nominations for the 2019 EUROTOX Merit award and for the Bo Holmstedt Memorial Award are open with a closing date of 30th January 2019. I encourage you to engage with your national Society and nominate outstanding individuals for these prestigious awards.
On a similar note, I have just received the exciting news that Ruth Roberts, a EUROTOX Past-President is standing for the position of SOT Vice President-Elect. As a past member of the EUROTOX Executive Committee and President (2012-2014) Ruth hopes to be the first non-US based President! ‘It’s a great honour to be asked to stand for election to lead SOT’, she said. ‘The experience gained in working with EC to lead EUROTOX has been invaluable. If elected, I would focus on increasing the impact of toxicology by advancing the science and by investing in training the next generation of toxicologists.’ Please take the opportunity to cast your vote before 1st February on the SOT website– open to SOT members only.
Our Executive Committee will meet in February in Helsinki where the whole committee will continue to work on strategic planning and on-going activities for our next Business Council.
