FRENCH SOCIETY OF TOXICOLOGY ANNUAL MEETING 2015

The annual meeting of the French Society of Toxicology (SFT) took place on 25 and 26 November 2015 in Paris. It was big success, as many as 220 participants, among them 30 master students, were present, such contributing to one of SFT biggest meeting regarding number of attendees. It was also the occasion to celebrate the 40 years of the society.

The topic chosen this year was the “Risk Assessment of Endocrine Disruptors”. Many aspects were covered, by 17 speakers.
The first day of presentation was focused on two questions:

  • How to detect endocrine disruptors, what are the relevant tests to use?
  • What about the main regulatory aspects in France and Europe?

The second day was divided into:

  • Risk assessment of endocrine disruptors
  • Presentation and discussion of examples selected from well-known hot topics

In this last session, endocrine disruptors evaluation in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food industry and also consequences for the environment was presented.
As usual, it was a pleasure for SFT to give awards to young scientists for their poster communication during the congress:

  • Toxicity evaluation of e-cigarettes vapors on human pulmonary epithelial cells
  • Evaluation of the effect of a maternal exposure to deltamethrine on rat fetal testes

A price was also attributed to a student for her Ph.D work entitled:

  • Study of new biomarkers of micropolluants induced toxicity (benzo(a)pyrene and DiEthylHexyl Phthalate) on human placenta models

General assembly took place on November 25, and SFT has elected its new President, Alain Simonnard, for 2 years. Past President Philippe Bourrinet was thanked for his excellent job over the two past years. It was also an opportunity to inform that, in 2016, SFT will be associated with ESTIV and SPTC for the 19th International Congress on In Vitro Toxicology to be held in Juan les Pins (France) October 17-20, 2016.
