The typical academic and practical skills required of an applicant were first published by EUROTOX in 1994 and may be found on their website.
The expectations are summarised as follows: basic theoretical training (three years minimum), further advanced theoretical and practical training in toxicology (two or more further years).
Suitable applicants for registration will have demonstrated a high standard of critical ability and communication skills, for example by authorship of published papers and/or reports.
Once registered, a toxicologist must re-affirm their registration credentials and illustrate their currency on a 5-yearly basis.
