EUROTOX aims to foster toxicology, both scientifically and educationally, in all countries of Europe. To this, EUROTOX organises an annual scientific congress, workshops, and postgraduate training courses.
EUROTOX is actively harmonising toxicology education and training, having established the European Register of Toxicologists in 1994.
Furthermore EUROTOX honours annually a distinguished European toxicologist by its Merit Award. Young toxicologists are encouraged by the annual Young Scientist Award, which is awarded every year to the best presentation at the EUROTOX Congress.
To honour Professor Bo Holmstedt, the Bo Holmstedt Memorial Fund (BHMF), in collaboration with EUROTOX, has established the Bo Holmstedt Memorial Lecture to be presented to an outstanding European Toxicologist at the EUROTOX Annual Congress meeting. The foundation is also supporting the Paracelcus symposium at the annual meeting. Bo Holmstedt's great interest in the teaching of toxicology and supported research in developing countries, a travelling lecture fellowship has also been established to allow a toxicologist from a developing country to spent some time in a European laboratory or regulatory agency.

To assess the need of safety/toxicity database of excipients likely to used in medicines for children. European Paediatric Formulation Initiative (EuPFI) is developing an evidence-based database, addressing safety issues and toxicity aspects of pharmaceutical excipients likely to be used in medicines for children. This database should act as a single repository and provide easy access to important information from key resources. The database will be available online and so will lead to a global approach to paediatric formulation development, and ultimately highlight gaps in excipient knowledge. EuPFI aims to perform a global survey to assess the need of this excipients database and further develop a prototype database based on the user’s needs. The long term goals are to implement this prototype database with several high priority excipients, to collect initial feedbacks from users for refinement, eventually include more excipients and maintain the finalized database.EuPFI has developed a survey questionnaire to capture the broad feedback from potential users. The questionnaire includes question on how you locate safety and toxicity information of the excipients for paediatric medicine development and your views on development of this database as a single online source and its content. |
